From April 26 to October 24, 2015 takes place the 8rd edition of the Georges Mauduit Challenge. On this occasion, 10 golf courses take part alongside the French League against Multiple Sclerosis through a sporting, friendly and charitable competition.

20150420_GeorgeMauduit2015_01From April 26 to October 24, 2015, ten golf courses open their greens to everyone for a friendly competition, intended for raise funds for research on multiple sclerosis and patient assistance. The challenge also allows you to educate all participants to this disease and change the eyes of the general public on a pathology that is still too little publicized.

Georges mauduit, vice-world champion in giant slalom in 1966, launched this golf challenge eight years ago, in memory of three friends who are international ski champions suffering from multiple sclerosis: “ When I left home at 19 with my sports bag on my back, everything was done to foster a sporting career and an extraordinarily rich and thrilling man's life. Happy retiree, it is normal that I give back to society all that it has given me during these years, hence this commitment to fight against multiple sclerosis ”. Georges Mauduit is the only former athlete to have given his name to a charity competition. He will be present on all the golf courses participating in the challenge.

Green fees and individual donations are donated to the French League against Multiple Sclerosis for his research and patient support activities. Last year, the funds raised contributed to the funding of three research projects dealing with the symptoms of MS, as well as to the organization of discussion groups for patients. Genzyme, a group company Sanofi engaged in research on multiple sclerosis, supports the League in all competitions.

In addition to the 10 golf courses associated with the competition (see the list below), many partners are committed alongside the League and contribute to the success of the Challenge, thanks to the endowment of prizes for the winning teams: the Sofitel hotels Thalassa sea & spa in Biarritz, Quiberon and the Gulf of Ajaccio, the Malandrone jewelry store, the equipment manufacturers Back Skin, David Musty Putters, Vidmaxx and Peter Fleming, as well as the Swing-Féminin.com and Golf Stars guide editors.

Combating the first cause of non-traumatic disability in young adults together

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. In France, between 70 and 000 people[1] are reached. The disease is the leading cause of non-traumatic disability in young people (the disease most often manifested between 20 and 40 years of age[2]). It affects two to three times more women than men. The more MS progresses, the greater its impact on patients and their quality of life: two out of three patients are unemployed due to their MS and find it difficult to continue their leisure activities and lead a normal life.

There is currently no treatment to cure the disease. Multiple sclerosis patients expect a lot from research, with the hope that new therapies will change the course of their disease. It is essential to continue the research effort to better understand this complex pathology and find adequate treatments.
