Chantaco golf course, birthplace of the Lacoste family

Created in 1928 under the leadership of Simone Thion de la Chaume, illustrious golfer and wife of René Lacoste, this short and technical course is perfectly suited to the requirements of modern women's golf. 5 meters long, it offers two faces: a go to the plain with some water obstacles, and a slightly hilly return among the trees, where you have to know how to play long and straight. Despite its age and recent work, the original look and spirit desired by its creator, the illustrious British architect Harry Colt, are still present.

An anniversary: the 50th anniversary of Catherine Lacoste's victory at the US Open

On July 2, 1967, Catherine Lacoste won the US Open to everyone's surprise. Co-leader in the first round, then with a five-stroke lead after the second and third rounds, she finally won by two lengths on the course at Homestead Resort, in Virginia. At 22, the daughter of tennis and tennis legends René Lacoste, Simone Thion de la Chaume, became the youngest player to achieve such a feat at the time.

Fifty years later, it remains the only amateur to have won the most prestigious major women's golf tournament.

The latest winners

American Beth Allen, 38 (2016), French Céline Herbin, 34 (2015) and Spaniard Azahara Muñoz, 29 (2013 and 2014) are the last three players to win the Lacoste Ladies Open de France . These champions, who play full time on the LPGA Tour in the United States, will all be present at Chantaco to inscribe their name once again on the trophy.

The French delegation

With 16 French women already registered *, the chances of a 7th French victory in the event are very real. From Gwladys Nocera (42 years old), titled 14 times on the Ladies European Tour and European number 1 in 2008, to Isabelle Boineau (28 years old), the last Frenchwoman to win the LET (at the Scottish Open in 2016), through the players of the American circuit Céline Herbin (34 years old), Joanna Klatten (32 years old), and the experienced Valentine Derrey (30 years old) and Marion Ricordeau (31 years old), the contenders are numerous. It will also be necessary to watch the young proets Agathe Sauzon (25 years), Justine Dreher (25 years) or even the youngest Éva Gilly (19 years) in full rise.

European members of the Solheim Cup

Revelation of the last Solheim Cup on the European side, the English Georgia Hall (21) will play the tournament for the third time. After his 3th place in 11 and his 2015th place last year, the current European number 4 will aim for her 3st victory over the LET. She will meet her compatriot Florentyna Parker (1) in Chantaco, who took a nice 28nd place in 2, as well as a 2016th place in 4.

The American touch

Cristie Kerr, best player of the last Solheim Cup on the American side, will return to Chantaco, two years after the 7th place scooped in her first participation. At almost 40 years old, the American remains one of the best golfers on the planet, as evidenced by her victory at the Lotte Championship on the LPGA Tour last April (the 19th of her career) and her current 14th place in the world.

The Romaine of Chantaco

Defeated in the play-off of the French Open in 2010 (by Trish Johnson) and in 2011 (by Felicity Johnson), Diana Luna, the native of Rome is however no stranger to victory. At 34, the Italian has indeed 5 successes on the Ladies European Tour, the most striking being that won in 2011 at the German Open, where she became the first player in LET history to sign four turns without any bogey. A record for which the ambassador of Richard Mille is still the only holder on all the women's circuits of the world!
