Costa Navarino, the first destination committed to sustainable development in the Mediterranean inaugurates the 1st Messinia Pro-Am from 21 to 24 February 2017, under the aegis of the PGAs of Europe, the PGA of Greece and the Hellenic Olympic Committee.

When golf meets the history of ancient Greece…

“Sfairistiki”, the ancestor of all club games such as hockey and golf, was one of the most popular sports. Several statues and amphorae dating from 510 to 500 years BC represent it.

High-level professional players, celebrities and amateurs from all over the world will have the opportunity to compete on the multi-award winning golf courses: The Dunes Course and The Bay Course, the only signature golf courses in Greece. Athletes will be able to enjoy ideal weather conditions, the magnificent Mediterranean panorama and breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea while playing amidst century-old olive trees and green hills.

Costa Navarino is home to The Dunes Course, the first signature 18-hole golf course designed by Bernhard Langer, former US Master champion and captain of the European Ryder Cup team, in association with the European Golf Design. The Dune Course hosts a 3500 m2 golf club as well as a Golf Academy.

The Bay Course, meanwhile, is an 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. located near historic Navarino Bay and ranked among “the best golf courses” by Robb Report. Both golf courses were awarded in 2014 as Best Newcomers by the World of Leading Golf Association.

Messinia Pro-Am aims to become an essential institution, welcoming international golf elites and thereby contributing to the development and promotion of golf and golf tourism in Greece. Furthermore, as was the case in 1900 and 1904, golf will again be an Olympic discipline in 2016.
