A big-hearted godfather

Georges Mauduit, vice-world giant slalom champion in 1966, launched this golf challenge ten years ago, in memory of three friends, international ski champions suffering from multiple sclerosis: “When I left home at 19 with my sports bag on my back, everything was done to promote a sporting career and an extraordinarily rich and thrilling life as a man. Happy retired, it is normal that I give back to society all that it has given me during these years, hence this commitment to fight against multiple sclerosis ”. Georges Mauduit is the only former athlete to have given his name to a charity competition. He will be present on all the golf courses participating in the challenge.

Combating the first cause of non-traumatic disability in young adults together

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. In France, where 100 people are affected, it is the first cause of handicap for young people after road accidents. It affects women three times more than men. The more MS progresses, the greater its impact on people and their quality of life: two out of three patients are unemployed because of their MS and find it difficult to continue their leisure activities and lead a normal life.

There is currently no treatment to cure the disease. People with multiple sclerosis expect a lot from research, with the hope that new drugs will change the course of their disease. It is essential to continue the research effort to better understand this complex pathology and find adequate treatments.

About the French League against Multiple Sclerosis

Recognized as a public utility since 1997, this association federation was created in 1986 by Professor René MARTEAU. Chaired by Dr Olivier HEINZLEF, the League's mission is to inform those affected directly or indirectly, doctors and the general public. It promotes moral and material aid to patients and their families, through the action of correspondents and that of member associations. It supports Research on Multiple Sclerosis, in particular by implementing programs dedicated to clinical research. She represents French patients with international institutions fighting multiple sclerosis, such as the EMSP (European MS Platform) or the MSIF (International Federation of MS Societies).
