A special “Renoir en Champagnes” vintage for Christmas
The Renoir d'Essoyes Cultural Center and its 10 partner champagne houses invite you to discover their Renoir cuvée during the Christmas celebrations. A unique association of ten works of art and ten exceptional champagnes, which takes a sparkling look at the painting of the great impressionist master.
Historically, oenologists, cellar masters and winegrowers have loved to immerse themselves in the painter's image and his palette of colors to describe the magic of Champagne blends. The cultural center "Du cote des Renoir" and its partner champagne houses have decided to go even further in this process of associating art and great vintages. "Taste this champagne and tell us which table you want to combine it with." Elegance, roundness, femininity, complexity, seduction, harmony ... There are many words that can describe a work of art as well as a great wine. It was in the house of Pierre-Auguste Renoir in Essoyes, still imbued with the presence of the great master of Impressionism, that a committee of experts met for a fascinating day of tasting. The result was beyond all expectations! Convergence of choices, inspiration, quality of fascinating and original comments. A new way of describing champagnes, a sparkling look at the works of Renoir. On the borders of Champagne and Burgundy, each summer, the Renoirs used to settle in Essoyes, a village that looks like a work of art. In 1880, Pierre-Auguste Renoir met Aline Victorine Charigot, a young and pretty girl native of Essoyes. First his model, then his wife, they will have three sons together: Pierre, the actor, Jean, the filmmaker and Claude, the ceramist. Thanks to this charming peasant woman, it is the whole of Champagne that he will marry.
In the privacy of the painter
The Espace des Renoir and the Painter's Workshop today wonderfully retrace the countryside, the summer landscapes, the river with silver reflections, all these simple things in life that Renoir would seek when he came " peasant in Champagne ”. This presentation will take you beyond painting and will introduce you to the world of cinema through the work of Jean Renoir, filmmaker and his brother Pierre. Because the place is dedicated to the whole family, Aline, Pierre, Jean and Claude, without forgetting Gabrielle. Then, you will discover the secrets of painting while strolling through the streets of the village: tavern, artists' galleries, "Gabrielle and Jean", "Dance in the countryside" ... The walking tour finally allows visitors to '' appreciate a multitude of small wonders before diving into the Master's workshop built at the bottom of the garden so as not to disturb the children in their games ... "I liked the winegrowers because they are generous ..." said Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Associating a wine as prestigious as champagne with the works of one of the greatest creators of Impressionism is nothing but a way of paying homage to him.
