The Northern Irishman posted a final round of 64 to set the clubhouse goal at 17 under par. Spaniard Adrian Otaegui put in a putt to win on the 18th hole, but ended up making three putts, while Caldwell won his first European Tour title by one stroke ahead.

The Vallda Golf and Country Club hosted this innovative tournament which saw 78 men and 78 women compete for the same trophy and the same endowment on the same course.

Hewson started the day tied with Australia's Jason Scrivener, Welsh Rhys Enoch and Sweden's Caroline Hedwall.

The start was once again mixed for the Englishwoman, who won the Investec South African Women's Open 2020, as she dropped a shot on her first hole.

Another miss at 5 sandwiched between two birdies and Hewson bounced back from a bogey at 8 with back-to-back birdies.

Her last fumble came on the 12th hole before she birdied three on the next four holes to secure third place.

“It was really exciting! I got off to a rough start and was really nervous on the first few holes, but managed to gain momentum on the return. I'm really happy with my performance this week, especially after a very difficult start to the season ”, said the 23-year-old.

" It was very fun. It was good to see my name move up the rankings. I would have liked to put my putt in the 17th and give myself a chance in the 18th, but that's how it is and I still had a lot of fun. "

Returning to the tournament, which was hosted by Swedish legends Henrik Stenson and Annika Sorenstam, Hewson added: “It was a tremendous opportunity for women's golf as a whole. Being on this stage and showing everyone how good women's golf is has been a really good opportunity and I'm very happy to have been a part of it. "

“I am very grateful to Annika and Henrik for organizing this tournament for us and I am very happy to have participated in the first edition. "

Thanks to this performance, Hewson surged in the Race to Costa del Sol 2021 standings, she started the day in 83rd position and is now in fourth position with 508,5 points.

Babnik is still at the top of the table, but Olivia Cowan (T10) performance this week propelled her to second place with Lee-Anne Pace in third.

The excellent performance of the Berkhamsted golfer also propelled her to second in the LET Solheim Cup standings with 70 points, while Sanna Nuutinen is now third with 66,25 points.
