Mike Whan, patron of the American women's circuit LPGA Tour, announced his future plans to improve the Evian Championship. In order to avoid the vagaries of the weather, he recommends replacing it in mid-summer by 2019.

As bad weather weighed on the Evian Championship again last September for the second time in five years, Whan came under fire for his decision to scramble the scores in the first round and shorten the major championship to 54 holes.

Whan said he was going to make a major date change in hopes of improving conditions for the tournament.

Criticized by the players and by the press after this shortened Major, the boss of the American female elite did not procrastinate: "We will bring back the Evian Championship on a summer date ", promised Whan. "It may not be in 2018, but certainly in 2019".

Before being labeled as a fifth Major in 2013, the Evian Masters had been positioned since 2003 at the end of July.

Whan said he believes in the Evian Championship as the major LPGA Championship, but regrets his decision to move the event to September, with its rainy season and shorter days, in order to avoid overlap with the British Open.

"The challenges we have faced are of human origin"said Whan. “And I'm the man who made them. "
