The Walking Man, more than a masterpiece, is an icon of XNUMXth century art. With this iconic motif, Giacometti has managed to concentrate the evocative power of his work and to embody the most powerful aspiration of his time: to humanize the world, history and art.

For the first time, the various life-size models of the Walking Man created by the artist will be brought together, as well as most of the sculpted and drawn variations on this theme. Exceptionally, the first Man Who Walks in life size from 1947 and Man Who Walks I, II and III (1960) from the Giacometti Foundation will thus be present.

This major exhibition traces the genealogy of the motif, from The Walking Woman of the surrealist period to the icons created in 1959-60. Accompanied by numerous unpublished documents and drawings, the exhibition tells the story of Giacometti's most famous work.
