What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. It creates a dysfunction of the immune system and leads to lesions that cause motor, sensory, visual and cognitive disturbances. Symptoms are different from person to person and may change. In France, 115 people are affected and there are 000 new cases per year. It is the leading cause of non-traumatic disability in young people (the disease most often manifesting itself between 5000 and 20 years of age). 40% of people with MS are women. Like 75% of disabilities, multiple sclerosis is often invisible and patients often find themselves misunderstood and isolated. Two out of three patients are unemployed due to their MS and find it difficult to pursue their leisure activities and lead a normal life.

Fighting Multiple Sclerosis together

To date, there is no treatment to cure MS. Those affected are nevertheless well supported to live more peacefully, but the disease remains present in their daily lives throughout their lives.

The health crisis that we have all suffered has accentuated the feeling of isolation of patients. This is why Research must continue to improve their daily lives through new treatments and ever greater therapeutic advances.

Thanks to donations, the French League against Multiple Sclerosis (LFSEP) has been supporting research on MS for 35 years and supports patients in their daily lives by informing them and developing workshops to better manage their symptoms. She also listens to them and meets patients and their loved ones. This support for people affected by MS is supported by a strong network across France: around fifty correspondents and forty expert patients. “Multiple sclerosis is a disease that requires the intervention of many professionals, both doctors and paramedics, people need to be supported. Therapeutic research is extremely dynamic in France,” says Dr. Olivier Heinzlef, head of the neurology department at the Poissy-Saint-Germain hospital center and president of the LFSEP.

Through playful and united golf competitions, the Challenge G. Mauduit and the LFSEP have multiple objectives: to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis and raise awareness among the general public, to promote the practice of a sporting activity to limit the progression of the handicap , make sport an ally against the disease, and raise donations to help fight MS.

In 2021, more than 500 golfers have mobilized to participate in the Challenge Georges Mauduit! During the string race, 850 meters of string were distributed to players in exchange for donations. Thanks to clubs, partners and donations from participants, the Challenge G. Mauduit raised 35 euros for the benefit of the LFSEP.

The Georges Mauduit Challenge 2022

Deeply touched by the fate of three of his friends, international ski champions suffering from MS, Georges Mauduit, vice-world champion in giant slalom in 1966, got involved with the LFSEP and Dr. O.Heinzlef, creating in 2007 , in Méribel, a golf challenge. “It is all together that we will be able to fight against this terrible disease that is so debilitating. Let's take up the challenge of surpassing last year's donation records to support patients and Research»
