The crocodile brand has chosen the year of its 85th anniversary to pay tribute to the genius and the legend of its founder by the publication of a new book entitled "René Lacoste" - written by Laurence Benaïm at Editions de la Martinière - which will be released in September in the United States. An opportunity for the brand to link the two continents and look back on its history and the many journeys that have marked the sporting and professional career of this visionary entrepreneur,

Legendary crossings of yesterday ...

It was in August 1923, the year of his first selection for the Davis Cup, that René Lacoste, accompanied by his mother, discovered America for the first time. An inspiring and inspired continent which will never cease to influence its life course punctuated by encounters and successes. In September 1927, René Lacoste experienced the advent of his record by winning the Davis Cup at the Germantown Cricket Club in Philadelphia, surrounded by the three other Musketeers - Henri Cochet, Jacques Brugnon and Jean Borotra. That same year, back to France on the liner "Ile-de-France", the United States championship finalist traded a few balls with an attractive young woman, Simone Thion de la Chaume, whom he married in 1930.

At the beginning of the autumn of 1928, during a brief pause in his tennis career, René Lacoste, born inventor and passionate about cars, aviation and engines, once again went to the American continent. At the request of his father, managing director of the Hispano-Suiza France company, he went in search of high performance machine tools that could be installed in the Bois-Colombes factory. An enriching journey where René Lacoste meets the first American car manufacturer Henry Ford and visits the laboratories of General Electric.

Transatlantic today.

Reminiscent of the trips made by its founder, LACOSTE chose to join New York by sea to participate in the first day of the US Open 2018 which began on Monday, August 27. A return to authenticity, a key value in its success story, which LACOSTE celebrated with a cruise, organized by Cunard France, aboard the Queen Mary 2, the last liner to cross the transatlantic waves in one go. A ship unlike any other, it embodies the splendor of a time when we took the time to live. Fascinating in power and grace, the magic of this giant comes from its calculated slowness which offers a timeless parenthesis between these two shores.
