Marie Chouinard, from Quebec, creates a ballet for 10 dancers, inspired by the famous painting by Jérôme Bosch, The garden of delights.

The triptych at once agonizing and erotic, Le Jardin des Délices is one of the emblematic works of the Dutch painter. The left panel, in soft colors, represents Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the right panel, very dark, the damned in the flames of hell. In the center is Le Jardin des Délices.

Like a choreographer seizes upon music to create, Marie Chouinard, the high priestess of contemporary Quebec dance, starts from Bosch's painting to imagine her new creation. And sets in motion three acts from the famous triptych, in the purest spirit of the Garden.

Marie Chouinard

“Often described as a“ movement witch ”, Marie Chouinard has spent more than 27 years inventing movements that attempt to capture the ineffable, the inexpressible, the primitive impulses of the human body. Her entire work is carried by this great freedom which pushes her to always want to explore new scenic languages.

Fascinated by the body that she considers a temple, a precious bible, she gives life to creations that try to demonstrate how the spirit can be expressed through human flesh. A word, an impression, music heard in a walkman, can come and trigger the creation process. »L'Express
