Jaguar will produce the dazzling XKSS to continue the original series. Nine new XKSS - a car often considered by experts to be the first supercar of all time - will be hand-assembled by Jaguar Classic to the same specifications as those produced in 1957 to replace the cars lost in the Browns factory fire Lane.

Tim Hannig, director of Jaguar Land Rover Classic, said:

“The XKSS occupies a unique place in the history of Jaguar and is sought after by collectors around the world for its exclusivity and its recognizable design.

Jaguar Classic's highly qualified engineers and technicians will draw on decades of knowledge to ensure that each of the nine cars is perfectly authentic and of the highest quality.

This XKSS is proof of our commitment to regenerate the passion and enthusiasm for the illustrious past of Jaguar by offering cars, services, spare parts and exceptional experiences. "

The original cars were destined for export to the USA, but only 16 were produced before the disaster. 59 years later, Jaguar will assemble the nine 'lost' XKSS for a group of handpicked collectors and customers.

The expertise acquired during the production of the Type-E Lightweight will be used to produce these nine exclusive cars. They will be handcrafted in a new experimental workshop - 'Experimental Shop' - in Warwick. The cars will meet the specifications of the first 16 produced in 1957 - each detail certified by Jaguar. Their price will exceed one million pounds sterling (€ 1,27 million). The history of the XKSS began after three consecutive Type-D victories at the 24h of Le Mans in 1955, 1956 and 1957. After this hat-trick, Sir Williams Lyons decided on January 14, 1957 to adapt the 25 Type -D remaining by making several external modifications; he had created the first 'supercar'.

These modifications included among others a new higher windshield, an additional door on the passenger side, the removal of the separation between the driver and the passenger and the famous spoiler behind the passenger seat. The first deliveries of the Jaguar XKSS will begin in early 2017.
