Technology

20160920_titleist_driverstitlest917referenceforacompleteperformance_02The Active Recoil Channel (ARC) 2.0 actively flexes and recedes on impact so that the ball leaves the club with greater speed and thus gains distance. The improved sole channel design, including a unique elastomer insert with a hollow core, results in greater flexibility of the face, which allows for more even deflection and thus improves speed across the entire face.

20160920_titleist_driverstitlest917referenceforacompleteperformance_03The Radial Speed Face 2.0, a highly responsive forged front insert that is tuned with ARC 2.0 to promote better ball speed on off-center hits, and thus provide more overall distance.

A high ME in a precise design, with a low and deep center of gravity, source of stability and tolerance while preserving the ball speed on off-center hits, for more distance, more often.

20160920_titleist_driverstitlest917referenceforacompleteperformance_04The Hosel SureFit from Titleist, the industry leader, and the new weighting system SureFit T&C (Center of Gravity) offer, for each player, the best in fine tuning. The patented 16-position SureFit Hosel allows the golfer to adjust lie and loft independently of each other to optimize ball flight. He can thus control his shots more and optimize his distance.

20160920_titleist_driverstitlest917referenceforacompleteperformance_05The new SureFit CG allows precise weight adjustment thanks to an extremely efficient system of interchangeable weights. The spin and launch conditions are thus optimized, which makes it possible to obtain more constant trajectories and to reduce dispersion. The unique orientation of the SureFit CG, placed at an angle and deep on the sole, allows the center of gravity to be shifted from a neutral position towards the heel (Draw position), or towards the toe (Fade position). Each position of the SureFit CG affects the dynamic closing of the face and thus the gearing effect that gives the ball its curvature. The golfer can thus improve his preferred trajectories thanks to a more constant impact and spin. The sleek design of the SureFit CG provides considerable weight savings compared to competing “track” systems. This allows manipulation of the center of gravity (CG) while preserving the high properties of the moment of inertia (MOI) of the 917, source of distance and tolerance. The SureFit CG also offers flexibility in head weight adjustment (+/- 4 grams).

20160920_titleist_driverstitlest917referenceforacompleteperformance_06Two models (917D2 and 917D3) offer distinct performance choices, particularly in terms of spin and trajectory, to offer more flexibility during fitting, precise ball flight and trajectory optimization.

Le 917D2 offers distance and tolerance in a total profile of 460 cc in the shape of a pear. Compared to the 917D3, the 917D2 allows more tolerance and produces a higher trajectory peak, with a higher spin rate of 250rpm. (Lofts available: 8,5 °, 9,5 °, 10,5 ° and 12 °).

Le 917D3 offers distance and playability in a traditional 440 cc pear-shaped profile inspired by the Tour. Compared to the 917D2, the 917D3 provides better playability and a lower spin rate of 250rpm. (Lofts available: 8,5 °, 9,5 ° and 10,5 °).

At address, the "liquid slate" finish, validated by the Tour, provides additional confidence.

The Titleist 917 drivers were very successful and received overwhelming validation from Tour players on five continents. Since their introduction and the validation phase started at the end of June at the Quicken Loans National, PGA Tour event, more than 150 players have trusted our new 917 drivers competing in the various professional circuits. Among them were Adam Scott (917D2, 9,5 °), Jimmy Walker (917D2, 8,5º), Bill Haas (917D2, 9,5º), Byeong Hun An (917D3, 8,5º), Justin Thomas (917D3, 9,5º), Charley Hoffman (917D2, 8,5º), Scott Piercy (917D2, 8,5º), Jason Dufner (917D2, 10,5º) and Webb Simpson (917D3, 10,5º).

Jimmy Walker began testing the first prototypes of the 917 in January at the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, California. As soon as he could, he played his new 917D2 (8,5 °) driver at the World Golf Championship at Firestone. Less than a month later, Walker won the PGA Championship at Baltusrol and won his first major tournament.
