This 150th edition of The Open had to be spectacular and the players did not miss the opportunity to sign countless birdies under almost perfect conditions for a British Open. The Old Course at St Andrews indeed struggled to defend itself in those early rounds, with the best players in the world facing rolling fairways with pleasant weather conditions, which are rarely experienced at The Open.

After these first two rounds of the last major of the season, it is Cameron Smith who is in first place on the leaderboard, two strokes ahead of the American Cameron Young. The Australian signs a card of 67 (-5) on Thursday then a 64 (-8) with six birdies and an eagle on 14.

Cameron Young leader of the first lap, close behind him with a total of -11. Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland complete the podium at -10 total.

Other favorites have also been present during these first two rounds like the world number 1 Scottie Scheffler who ranks sixth or the recent winner of the US Open Matt Fitzpatrick, 12th in the ranking.

The 12th place is also the position of the best amateur Barclay Brown who signs cards of 68 (-4) and 70 (-2). Three other amateurs also crossed the Cut: Filippo Celli, Sam Bairstow and Aaron Jarvis.

Victor Perez, our only Frenchman involved in this 150th The Open Championship made a solid start to the tournament with a card of 71 (-1) then 69 (-3). He is 25th at -4 total.

End of tournament for Tiger, far from the leader

Tiger Woods unfortunately does not pass the Cut of this edition of The Open at St Andrews. After playing 78 (+6) on the first day, he returns a new overcard on Friday at 75 (+3) and ends his major week at +9.
