The 24-year-old took advantage of the windy afternoon conditions to top the leaderboard at Vipingo Ridge. An eagle, six birdies and two bogeys propelled the Indian star to first place after a good first lap on the Baobab Course. "It was a great day," said the three-time LET winner.

“I made a lot of putts and birdie chances, but I converted them, which is good. I think I played well all day. I hit some really good shots, with two hybrids within five feet, which is better than expected. I hope to be able to continue this momentum tomorrow morning. Playing in the wind is usually something I'm not used to, so maybe I used the wrong club. But I'm going to focus on that and play it safe a few times when the shot isn't right for me. »

Ashok had a great time in Kenya in 2019, when she finished second at Vipingo Ridge, just one shot behind eventual winner Esther Henseleit. The two-time Olympic champion tries to feed on the happy memories she has around the course and all the birdies she has made.

First round standings

Seven players tie for second place in the standings after posting rounds of 71 (-2) on Day XNUMX in Kenya. Virginia Elena Carta of Italy, Ana Peláez Trivino of Spain and Kylie of Scotland came out in the morning groups, while Isabella Deilert of Sweden, Marta Sanz Barrio of Spain, Alice Hewson of England and April Angurasaranee of Thailand were in the afternoon departures. It was a solid start for Italy's Carta who had two birdies and two double bogeys on her front nine but fought back with four birdies on her back nine for a round of two.

The French Emma Grechi can be happy with her performance. After her first day of play, she ranks 12th and can aim for the podium. Yvie Chaucheprat is also in a good position with a score of 75 (+2) and a 25th place. Emie Peronnin, Agathe Laisné and Anne-Lise Caudal are close to qualifying for the rest of the tournament with scores of +4, +5, and +5 respectively. Agathe Sauzon is very close to qualifying with a score of +6, while Anaïs Meyssonnier and Lucie Malchirand still have a chance to qualify for the weekend with respective scores of +8 and +9.

The second round will start at 8 a.m. local time, and there will be a cut for the top 60 pros and ties at the end of day two.
