Woods, who was only competing in his fourth PGA Tour event after a lengthy layoff after spinal fusion surgery in April 2017, has been named a defendant because he employs LaCava, who was inducted last year into the Caddy Hall of Fame.

Josh Drechsel, the attorney representing Borruso, said the lawsuit was filed two years after the tournament to better understand the injuries, which were described in the lawsuit as "permanent or continuous".

Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent at Excel Sports Management, did not immediately respond to the request for an explanation. LaCava said he neither had any comments.

Drechsel, meanwhile, made a public appeal to fans who were in attendance on the 13th arrival that day and who may have witnessed the incident. A video from showed LaCava approaching fans with his left arm outstretched saying, “You have to preserve it. "

Drechsel said he asked the PGA Tour for a video of the tournament which told him he couldn't deliver anything without a court request.
