For the second day in a row, qualifying for the US Womens Open was on hold for most of the day at Druid Hills Golf Club, where 10cm of rain and a nearby tornado wreaked havoc on the course Monday.

The situation did not improve much on Tuesday, as play resumed at 13 p.m. and ended at 13:48 p.m.

Lewis has completed 3 and a half holes per day and shares the first place at -2 under par with amateurs Pauline Roussin-Bouchard and Alice Hodge. Three players are expected to compete in the 36-hole qualifying event for the US Womens Open, which takes place June 3-6 in San Francisco.

"The course was destroyed by wind and rain"said Lewis. "There were a few downed trees and they had to fix the bunkers and everything."

When the tornado warning sounded, Lewis said the players made their way to the car shed below the clubhouse. Druid Hills Superintendent Joe Hollis posted on Twitter that the course received 10cm of precipitation on Monday, exactly 2,5cm more than for the whole month of April. At 17 p.m. on Tuesday, Mr Hollis said an additional 2,8cm of rain had fallen and it had not stopped in the evening yet.

Kenzie Wright of Alabama has just three scores on his card so far and is one over par. She spent most of her time in Atlanta eating or trying to find a new hotel. On Saturday, Wright graduated with a Masters in Sports Hospitality and traveled to Atlanta on Sunday for a practice round. She is due to return to Tuscaloosa Thursday morning for a COVID-19 test in preparation for the next NCAA regional competition.

The resumption of qualifying for the US Womens Open is scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m.

"I just hope it wasn't all for nothing"Wright said.

A total of 24 players have already withdrawn from the event.
