Despite the confinement, Hubert Privé falls the mask with his new works even more offbeat, perhaps more artistic ... faces adorned with bullets, tees, irons where he mixes aesthetics, symbolism and futurism with his usual touch of humanism.

If the confinement constrained us in our desires, in our movements, it did not prevent us from thinking, imagining, creating. Once again, Hubert did not deprive himself of it. Faithful to his perpetual questioning, Hubert Privé took advantage of this complicated period to embark on a new job, while continuing his tour of France clubs, where his traveling exhibitions present his works, far from his Norman workshop. Tired of his objects diverted with humor, of the gigantism of some of his creations, of his usual furniture, he racked his brains… with a recurring idea: "No need to worry about playing golf!" ". Easier said than done…

Starting from the outlines of heads, faces, he adorned them with clubs, balls, tees as if golf were perspiring through the pores of the skin, through the hair, the hair of the beard. Witty allegories, at several levels of reading, with very personal interpretations. Everyone can find their own experience and memories there, while appreciating the artistic elegance linked to a certain humanism, a universality dear to the artist. Between a hair of irons that sees the birth of strength - like Samson and his secret - and yin and yang - white balls instead of hair on a black face, black balls for the beard of a white head - representing duality as much as complementarity, man-woman relations in a form of "semi-infinite" which can take us far, the tone is set, it leads to reflection. The multicolored tees planted in the skull of another face also go in this direction. Beyond the shimmering chromatic harmony, we can tend towards a multiracial interpretation of golf. The recent victory of a Japanese at the Masters brings water to the Hubert mill, far from being the only example in a sport that has followers on all continents. And what about "Golf Punk" with its Iroquois crest, mauve balls resting on a bald head! This profile face, enhanced with a mini Ryder Cup earring and golf ball nose piercing, looks great. Should we see the ideal line of putt, the one that passes through our neurons before the ball falls into the hole, the abyss of so many hopes. Anyone who one day missed an unmissable putt could attest to this ...

Like Viollet-Le-Duc in the midst of the apostles on the spire of Notre-Dame, David slipping into the canvas of Napoleon's coronation or Alfred Hitchcock making appearances as funny as they are furtive in his films, Hubert sees his brother behind his iconic and recognizable white glasses. Hair of white balls on a black face, the man offers a tender look at the work of the artist, a knowing but perhaps critical look, who knows! Face to face with yourself ...

The duality is also found in the portrait synthesizing the faces of Severiano Ballesteros and José Maria Olazábal, two men inseparable by their exploits in the Ryder Cup, complementary because they are different. They understand each other at a glance, without even speaking to each other!

The perfect pair, ideal, making one… Long hair of black balls and tattoo of a Ryder Cup on the Seve side, shorter hair and silhouette of his mentor in full swing tattooed on Txema's cheek, everything is said, nothing to add to this myth of the double man who has been causing people to talk since Antiquity ...

Everyone knows the metallic tees, pretty steel trophies, edited by Hubert Privé. Of several sizes, they had not yet been reunited together in a new work. It is now done with this crown placed on a black face, with black eyes from which tears of blood flow down the cheeks. Who better than Tiger Woods deserves this crown, that of the King of Golf, who revolutionized the game in less than a quarter of a century, has brought it into a new era in sport, media and finance. All his dolphins are grateful to him even though he had to give up his throne over time. Sport abhors a vacuum… A reminder of his Sunday outfits as a matador planting his banderillas on the greens, the tears of blood running down his cheeks also evoke the pangs he has suffered for more than ten years. So many wounds, scars, stitches, waves to the soul, indelible wounds also making the champion, the King, more human in the face of his outstanding record. We can also see in this face enhanced by this crown of tees with clean lines, a modern Christic interpretation. Would Tiger have sacrificed himself for our redemption? Not sure even if golf can be a religion, no offense to Saint Andrews. For Hubert, it is a passion, a madness according to his friends, which can take on surprising proportions. At a time when religions generate radical discord, it would be good to bring the game to its true value, a simple pleasure without the fuss! Undoubtedly the vocation of this work pushing the symbolism to the extreme, perhaps to help us to think even if the artist remains modest in this direction.

This new work, the result of isolation linked to the health context, sheds light on certain aspects of life transposed through a game of golf. The power, the strength linked to the precision - inseparable for a beautiful menu -, the reflection, the originality, the complementarity without which we are not much, the pain… The list could be long, everyone will know the complete as it pleases, according to its interpretations, its experience. One thing is certain, in his quest for reflection, Hubert has not finished surprising us!

His new creations on faces will be original works produced in a limited series of eight numbered copies and four artist's proofs (signed EA), allowing acquisition at affordable prices within the framework of the contemporary art market.
