On April 23, 2014, the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort and the Monte-Carlo Beach Relais et Châteaux became the first two hotels in the Principality of Monaco to receive Green Globe certification.

Obtaining certification crowns a “sustainable development” approach that Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer initiated in 2007 with the development of its first environmental charter. In particular, the Group reaffirmed this commitment by signing its second environmental charter last December and deploying environmental charters for its main establishments according to their own specific characteristics.

Since October 2013, the Monte-Carlo Bay has set up the "Bay Be Green Team", a dedicated team, which organizes and monitors their environmental approach.

The Monte-Carlo Bay developed, in February 2014, its own environmental charter composed of 37 actions such as the establishment of 100% energy-efficient lighting, charging stations for electric vehicles, control of its water consumption and waste management.

“Ecology is everyone's business! With all the staff at Monte-Carlo Bay, we must act and contribute to a change in lifestyle and behavior in order to protect and make our Environment more sustainable over time. Because if we do not act quickly and insistently, the environmental standards (Green Globe) that we have just implemented, will quickly be forgotten! ”, insists Sergio Mangini, Director of the Monte-Carlo Bay.

Since June 2013, the Monte-Carlo Beach Relais et Châteaux has had its own charter grouping together 35 actions in terms of environmental management and certifications which are reflected in particular by a flagship action: "Beach goes bio!" ".

Thus, with the obtaining of the certification “commercial catering 100% organic farming” of level 3, by Ecocert, of the gourmet restaurant Elsa, newly starred, Chef Paolo Sari offers entirely organic menus promoting local production of fruits and vegetables. To date, 90% of the ingredients in the other catering areas of the Monte-Carlo Beach resort are from organic farming. “In the short term, our goal is to make Monte-Carlo Beach the first eco-certified 100% organic hotel in all of its catering services: gourmet catering, room service, minibar and hotel bar. " specifies Danièle Garcelon, Director of Monte-Carlo Beach.

Finally, the Monte-Carlo Beach has opted for respectful management of its energies, notably with the purchase from EDF of the equivalent of its electricity consumption in renewable energy. Customers also have access to a non-polluting mode of transport thanks to the installation of an electric bike station.

The requirement of the criteria of the prestigious international label, Green Globe, confirms the “Green” and sustainable tourism positioning of the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer establishments.

Green Globe is an internationally recognized certification program designed for the luxury travel and tourism industry. This is a “CSR” standard - Corporate social responsibility - applicable to several types of structure such as resorts, spas and casinos.

The requirements for this certification fall into four categories: sustainable development management, social / economic aspect, cultural heritage and the environment. 321 indicators make it possible to assess the establishment's approach in favor of sustainable development. 179 points, including 64 compulsory, are necessary in order to obtain certification. The various evaluation criteria cover fields as diverse as employee training, sustainable construction, selective sorting and reduction of waste at source, biodiversity, customer satisfaction and the establishment's accessibility for people with reduced mobility.

The two Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer establishments were able to meet more than 70% of the criteria. The Green Globe certification being in a spirit of continuous improvement, an action plan will be put in place in order to pursue the objectives of the program.

All these actions are part of the “sustainable development” strategy of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer which, in line with the Principality's efforts, turns to an active responsible approach, demonstrates its commitments in favor of sustainable development and promotes these commitments to its customers and partners.
