For its 20th edition, the Pro-Am of South Africa made a stopover in Sun City and on
the Garden Route. A look back in pictures at this unmissable golf event that has become iconic over the years. The magic was once again there for this anniversary edition.

« In February 2003, during the first edition of the South Africa Pro-Am, organized in the Durban region, I was far from imagining that two decades later I was going to award the prizes for this anniversary edition on the beautiful closing night of Knysna, in the heart of the Garden Route ! recalls Philippe Heuzé, the creator and organizer of this event, which over the years has become a reference of its kind in the world of golf.

These two essential steps have become obvious, Philippe Heuzé told us, for this 20th edition. The unmissable Palace of Sun City near Pretoria and its courses designed by Gary Player, on the sides of an ancient crater with a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding mountains, before joining the no less enchanting golf courses of the Garden Route on the shores of the Indian Ocean.

After Phil Golding in 2009, another DP World Tour winner, Romain Wattel, honored this friendly competition with his presence. The internationally renowned golfer indeed knew South Africa for having already played there, but by no means this exceptional Pro Am. He was also, like all the players, particularly moved to meet Gary Player, who was as usual imperial on his journey to Goose Valley.

The South African player, considered one of the best golfers of all time, gave some advice to the pros, warmly responding to requests for selfies from golfers who came to admire him on site, he played his role as ambassador of the golf in South Africa and it was all smiles as he posed with the pros.

On the green, it is the team of Williams Hees accompanied by Patrick Coquoin, Philippe Ortiz and Marcel Tixier who have durably imposed their strength and regularity over the 5 rounds of the 2023 Pro-Am. fils” by Alain and Laurent Stipal with Marie Biraben and the pro David Duhamel, meanwhile, imposed itself brilliantly by winning the tees by the artist Hubert Privé, created especially for this anniversary edition. Among the Pros, the birdie race was dominated by Maxime Radureau, Anthony Grenier and Romain Wattel who should logically quickly find the fairways of the DP WORLD TOUR.

The South Africa Pro-Am is also known for its special “non-golf” moments. This was the case once again during this edition with the exceptional safari in the reserve of
Pilanesberg and the unforgettable gala evening in Pezula. Next year, the Pro-Am will enter its third decade of existence. And it is in Cape Town that the next edition of this "Dakar of golf" will take place, scheduled for January 21, 2024.

About Sun City

Sun City – South Africa Pro-Am 2023 – TPlassais-Swing-Feminine

The history of the Sun City Hotel and Golf Course in South Africa dates back to the 1970s, when Sol Kerzner, a South African tourism magnate, set out to create a luxury resort destination in the North West of country. One of the main attractions of this resort was a world-class golf course that offered a unique playing experience for both professional and amateur golfers. Sun City Golf Course was designed by Gary Player, one of the greatest golfers of all time and a native of South Africa. It was inaugurated in 1979 and quickly became one of the most prestigious courses in Africa. The course has hosted many renowned golf tournaments, including the Sun City Grand Prix, which has attracted some of the best players in the world. It is made up of two separate courses: the Gary Player course, which is more challenging and more technical, and the Lost City course, which is shorter and more scenic. In addition to golf, the Sun City Hotel offers a variety of other recreational activities, pools, restaurants, spas, live concerts and casino to break the bank.
