So Yeon Ryu (유소연 Korean, RR Ryu So-yeon, Mr. Ryu Soyon, pronounced [ɾju s ʰ ojʌn]; born June 29, 1990), also known as Ryu So-yeon, is a professional South Korean golfer who plays on the LPGA tour and on the Korea LPGA tour. She won the US Women's Open 2011.
Professional Career
Ryu became professional in 2007 at 17 years old. Her first victory as a professional came in February 2008 on the American Cactus tour, in which she won by six strokes. She then joined the LPGA of Korea, winning the first event, she played the Seoul Sport Open.
On July 11, 2011 Ryu won the United States Women's Open. On the 18th hole of the final round, the most difficult hole of the tournament, she dragged the head of Kyung Hee Seo club by a blow, but hit her approach of 6 feet and made the birdie to force a play-off. Ryu won the three-hole playoff with a birdie on the last hole.
Ryu won the second story of his career at LPGA in 2012 at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic. With a tournament still to be played in the season, Ryu had a fairly large lead in the LPGA Rookie of the Year title ranking points to win the season's prize.
On June 23, 2013, Ryu lost in overtime to a sudden death at the Arkansas Walmart NW Championship against his fellow South Korean Inbee Park. Park made a birdie on the first additional hole to take the victory.
