Helen Alfredsson won the 2019 Senior LPGA Championship title at the French Lick, despite a windy last day. With falling temperatures and increasingly strong bourasques, only Helen Alfredsson finished the tournament under par at -2.

Alfredsson, a seven-time LPGA Tour winner and Major champion, won her second Senior Major of the season after winning the 2019 US Senior Women's Open last May.

Alfredsson birdied three on the first nine holes, while second-round leader Juli Inkster conceded a buggy twice out of the nine to go and fell from first place two places lower. With just one bug on the 11, Alfredsson recorded a series of starts to take the lead until the final putt fell on Wednesday night.

“As all sports psychologists say, hit one ball at a time. It's even more crucial on a day like this, and really stay out of the problem areas that you can easily find here and that's what I've been trying to do all day. It wasn't always pretty, but luckily it was very effective, ” said Alfredsson.

Alfredsson had finished T2 in 2017 and T3 in 2018, and felt a victory was near on Pete Dye's course. "It was a great feeling to win the US Senior Women's Open and get a USGA trophy because it eluded me for a while," said Alfredsson. “I always wanted to do it at the end, to be strong and determined, and that's what I'm happiest for. When the fire enters your belly, I mean, it rises in me playing. So I'm happier to have been able to keep a cool head. "

LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame member Inkster struggled to make the back nine, with three more bogeys for a single birdie to finish second in solo at (+1) after signing a card of 76. It was her third second place in a Senior Major, but she knows there is still a lot to look forward to. "My training swings were doing me good, then I'll get over it and it's like my lower body just stopped", commented Inkster. "You know what, the sun will rise tomorrow. "

Trish Johnson, winner of the event in 2017, finished tied with Moira Dunn-Bohls for third place on the podium. Michele Redman finished in the top five after getting a 72 (+3) card.

Only one other player recorded a lap under par on the final day. Michele McGann placed first on Wednesday and posted a score of 69 to go from T43 to T19 at (+11).

After hoisting the trophy, Alfredsson announced that she would sponsor a red van at Riley Children's Hospital. "What we do with Riley's kids, you feel like you're leaving this place after meeting all these amazing kids, and we're hoping to do something right," said Alfredsson. “We love it, but what is more important is what we are able to give back.
