The 12 men from Team Europe wore yellow ribbons on their sweaters with the name Celia Barquín written in red, in tribute to the young Spanish golfer who died tragically last week.

Captain Bjørn and his team wore the ribbons - using the colors of the Spanish flag - as a mark of respect for the loss of the talented young golfer, who received tributes last week from fellow Spaniards Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm.

Ryder Cup Europe had been in contact with Miriam Barquín, Celia's mother, to express the European team's support for the family. Miriam said she was “proud and humble” of Bjørn and his team's gesture, mentioning that she and Celia had discussed the upcoming Ryder Cup together.

"Obviously, the golf family goes far beyond what we are trying to do this week"said Bjørn. “These events in America, where Celia was murdered while playing golf, are something that strikes everyone in the golf family, and of course our two Spanish players. "

“We had a feeling that after a conversation between Ryder Cup Europe and Celia's mom, we would pay tribute to her this week. It's what we do, and it's nothing about us, it's just the fact that the golf family is affected by these things all over the world. It's terrible when things like this happen. "

“It was a great prospect for golf, but he was also a great person. And when you talk to Sergio and Jon about it, they couldn't talk loud enough about her. We felt it was appropriate for the week. "

Yellow ribbons will be available to players from both teams this week in Paris, while the players' wives and partners will wear yellow roses during the opening ceremony on Thursday afternoon.
