Rose, first Olympic medalist in 112 years!
Rose entered the history of Golf becoming the first Olympic medalist in the discipline absent for 112 years from the Games, after George Lyon, the last winner… in 1904.
The Briton was two strokes ahead of the Swede Henrik Stenson who won silver and the American Matt Kuchar, bronze medalist. Too bad for Grégory Bourdy who missed his last lap (+2) to finish in 25th position with 13 leader shots.
Justine Rose at the end of the suspense
Rose won after an incredible showdown where the two men went blow for blow. Still tied at the start of 18 at -15, it took a few centimeters for Rose to see his throw-in remained on the fairways, after a second shot, full fairway this one, the Briton took a serious option on the victory, with the last millimeter approach, fell less than a meter from the mast, while Stenson for his part missed his approach, which ended his race much further on the green. No regrets missed putt for birdie and par.
« I was so motivated to represent the Great Britain team. It was simply the most magical week of my athletic life! Said the winner of the 2013 US Open with a huge smile.
