It's DeChambeau's sixth PGA Tour victory and his first in 20 months, since the Shiners Hospitals for Children Open in 2018. But the man who won nearly two years ago in Las Vegas doesn't look like much. to the one who was awarded this Sunday in Detroit. Ironically, it was during the Shriners last fall that DeChambeau announced his intention to get bigger and stronger, stating at the time “I will come back next year transformed. "

With two more shirt sizes, who knows how many pounds, DeChambeau arrived at Rocket Mortgage this week as the golf star, racking up six consecutive top 8s since February and propelling his driver like no other player on the Tour. Even his unintentional mistake on Saturday and the backlash that accompanied it could not foil his rise to the very closed circle of winners. Some nine months after the announcement of its master plan, DeChambeau is indeed bigger and stronger, and better performing than it has ever been.

How did it happen : With three holes behind Wolff at the start of the last round, DeChambeau recovered in just three holes his deficit and found himself three holes clear after his fifth birdie of the day at number 10. After seeing his lead reduced to a single stroke following a fall into the rocks on the 13th and a comeback from Wolff on the return, DeChambeau entered the clubhouse victorious lining up the birdies in the 16th, 17th and 18th to conclude his last day on an impressive 65, with a victory with a three-point lead. Since the restart of the Tour, he has totaled a breathtaking 67 under the par in four starts!

The biggest disappointment: Wolff, the 54-hole leader, saw his three-stroke advantage disappear in just two holes, edging DeChambeau five strokes after playing his first 10 holes 3 over par. Refusing to be put down, Wolff fired back with birdies on the 12th, 13th, 15th and 17th holes, but two major misses, a birdie on the 16th hole and an eagle on the 17th hole, cost him any chance of catching DeChambeau lengthwise. . He settled for a final round of 71 (-1).

After a few scorecards littered with geometric shapes, Wolff only made 12 runs over the weekend, trading 15 birdies and an eagle for eight bogeys. He is now 1 bogey for 2 points, which brings him closer to a victory after 13 months as a pro.

Quote of the day: “I will say, for people who watch the tournament from home, whatever you say about me, I love everyone. … I hope everyone will have appreciated the difficult task I have accomplished ”- DeChambeau

Ranking : Bryson DeChambeau (-23), Matthew Wolff (-20), Kevin Kisner (-18)
