Woods is currently recovering in the Los Angeles hospital after a serious car crash on Tuesday left him with serious leg injuries.

Morikawa, who grew up in Los Angeles idolizing Woods, paid tribute to the injured former world number one.

"Thanks to Tiger"

"Tiger means everything to me", Morikawa said. “Yes, he had the accident and luckily he is fine and will recover quickly. But I think we don't say thank you enough, so I want to say thank you to Tiger. "

Earlier, Norway's Hovland looked set to challenge Morikawa at the top of the standings after a wild lap that included five birdies and a bogey of the nine to go.

Two more birdies on holes 12 and 13 put him six under par for the day, but his charge stopped with two bogeys on holes 14 and 16.

Koepka failed to put pressure on Morikawa on the last few holes when he missed an easy putt on the 17th, which could have put him just two fingers away from the lead, with a birdie to play.

Koepka, who has been battling aches and stiff necks since Saturday's third round, finished with a 70 (-2).

Scottie Scheffler finished alone in fifth place on a 68 (-4) which included eight bidies, two bogeys and a double-bogey.

Scheffler was one of several players who made it to the course on Sunday, wearing Woods' Sunday colors of red and black in support of the five-time winner.

Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Phil Mickelson and Tony Finau are just a few of the players who showed up on the course wearing the iconic Woods color scheme.
