Lydia Ko, an inspired New Zealander, topped the world rankings at just 17 years and nine months, after securing second place in the Ocala Open, counting for the North American women's circuit, on Saturday .

Lydia Ko smashed a new record, that of the youngest world No. 1 in the history of golf, all categories combined for the women's and men's circuit, even earlier than the American Tiger Woods, who became world No. 1 in 1997 at the age of 21.

Ko, won five titles during her young career, including three in 2014 and dislodged the South Korean In-bee Park from her chair as the first world player who finished 13th (284).

The young prodigy shared her 2nd place with South Korean Jang Ha-na and American Jessica Korda (273).

The Ocala Open, the first event of the year on the LPGA circuit, saw the victory of South Korean Choi Na-yeon who won with a total of 272 (-16).
