This Sunday at Oakmont, JJ Spaun experienced hell and then heaven. On the first six holes of the final round, he recorded five bogeys. After struggling until play was interrupted by a thunderstorm, his resilience finally paid off. On a course considered the most demanding in the world, Spaun hung on. The American chained four birdies on the last six holes. The turning point came on the 17th: a perfect drive on a short par 4 gave him a crucial birdie.

On the 72nd hole, it was the apotheosis: he sank a 20-meter putt for a final birdie, and triumph. Defeated in a playoff at the beginning of the year at the Players Championship by Rory McIlroy, JJ Spaun this time lifted the trophy and entered the world's top 10 for the first time in his career: he was ranked 8th.

A tough end to the day for the final group. Adam Scott and Sam Burns, who were in the running and battling for victory until six holes from the end, exploded into action. The two men finished their tournament with respective scores of +9 and +8.

Robert McIntyre finished second. The Scot shot a 68 (-2) on this final round, giving him the best score in the clubhouse for a few minutes.

Victor Perez performed well at Oakmont! The Tarbes native earned a top-20 finish with a total of +7. Conversely, Matthieu Pavon had a tough weekend. The Bordeaux native finished second to last in the cut with a total of +22.
