Each year, more than 280 French people go to the Czech Republic mainly to explore the city of Prague. But the Czech Republic is not only its sumptuous capital. In the far east of the country, the riches of Moravia are also worth a visit. Capital of North Moravia, Ostrava stands out with its international airport as the third largest city in the country. Planted right in the city center, the factory chimneys in the lower part of the Vítkovice district are impressive. A vestige of the country's intense economic activity, this industrial site dating from the first half of the 000th century presents the entire history of the region's steel industry. Just as the architecture of the Baťa era is closely linked to the neighboring agglomeration of Zlín, the district of Vítkovice, meanwhile, unveils small houses specially designed for workers by the famous Rothschild dynasty which formerly owned the highlands. stoves. Thanks to gradual renovations, this city of steel is now included on the European list of cultural heritage. Every year in July, it welcomes in particular, directly above its immense iron structures, the Colors of Ostrava festival which brings together the most prestigious rock groups of the moment. A little further, Landek Park is the largest museum in the Czech Republic devoted to mining activity. For several years Stodolní Street has become the center of nightlife in Ostrava. Every weekend, thousands of visitors and students happily invest this artery where beer flows generously and which never sleeps.

Green hills, wooden chalets, renowned regional cuisine, and strong folk traditions: you have arrived safely in Moravian Wallachia (Valašsko in Czech). A region with a strong identity over which the pagan Slavic and bearded god Radegast, who also gave his name to the local ale, watches from the top of Mount Radhošť. At the bend of a green road soon emerges Štramberk, nicknamed by its many admirers the Bethlehem of Valašsko, because of its elegant alleys and the beauty of its wooden houses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. At the top of this small town that looks like it has come straight out of a fairy tale, stand the ruins of the Strallenberg fortress and its immense cylindrical tower called Trúba. From the circular wooden balustrade of the building, which was used by the soldiers on the rampart walk, the view is fantastic over the surrounding foothills and valleys. At the foot of the castle, a maze of picturesque alleys and zigzag stairs lead from the fortress to the main square. Visitors will find a museum of puppets and toys, the Aqua Terra mini zoo and the museum of the famous painter and illustrator Zdenek Burian (1905-1981) who specialized all his life in the representation of prehistoric animals and men for numerous scientific and popular works. In one of the wooden chalets at the corner of the square, a panopticon reveals many models who represent the outstanding personalities of the region.

Also on the square, the completely renovated municipal brewery produces a delicious local beer, Trubac. But the main attraction is to immerse yourself in a bath at 35-40 ° C which contains ingredients of brewer's yeast and rare plants, while enjoying a good light foam. It is indeed an original way of approaching two famous inseparable Czech traditions: hydrotherapy and the art of beer. Another renowned culinary curiosity, Štramberk's ears are delicious pastries made from spicy honey paste in the shape of rolled ears. These cute sins, with a secret and well-kept recipe, have been prepared for several centuries to commemorate the legendary victory of the Christians of Štramberk over the Tatar army. A few kilometers away, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm is a living symbol of the preservation of the historical heritage of the region. At the origin of the largest and oldest ecomuseum in Central Europe, there is the desire to highlight forgotten traditional crafts, popular art and to reconstruct the social life of the inhabitants of Wallachia. The site is made up of a hundred wooden buildings, the interior of which can often be visited. Together, they form a real small town in which have been transported the houses of Rožnov square, the beautiful church of a nearby village as well as a German-type windmill, which allows you to discover the techniques of the millers . Lastly, the oldest part of this eco-museum offers dance and song performances all year round, festivals and events inspired by popular customs and traditions.

For a long time, Hukvaldy was the most imposing castle in Moravia and the birthplace of composer Leoš Janáček (1854-1928). In June and July, the international music festival "Hukvaldy, Janáček country" remains for all music lovers a great annual event. The cunning vixen, the composer's famous opera is always evoked by a monument dedicated to the memory of the animal in the hunting reserve. A permanent source of inspiration for the musician, Janáček liked to sit at the top of one of the towers of his castle. Even today, the romantic ruins of the medieval fortress remain on a clear day an ideal place to observe the whole region. A great opportunity to discover another peaceful, rural, traditional and mountainous Czech Republic off the beaten track ...
