What is your assessment of the 2019 season?

Camille Chevalier: I learned a lot last year. I changed staff, I work with people who are among the best in their field. My new coach, Bart Bollen, teaches me how to move my body in the best possible way. He introduced me to a team that deals with physical preparation, posture, which is very focused on biomechanics.

Is it an area that you work on as a priority now?

Yes, my technique is still below compared to other players on the circuit. My way of moving was not good and did not correspond to my morphology, with all the risks of injury that this can cause. I was losing too much energy and speed. I'm learning to move better, to use gravity and the ground better. In putting, I also work on stability.

What are your goals for the 2020 Camille season?

Progress in my game. I do a lot of groundwork to break the glass ceiling that prevents me from evolving at my best. I would like to build on a more solid game. I will play the 25 LET tournaments a priori. The ultimate goal is to be able to integrate the LPGA circuit. I will surely go to the cards, next October.

What do you think of the new schedule offered by LET, with many more tournaments than in previous years?

It's great to be able to play almost every week. When you participate in a few tournaments, it's difficult to keep track of your game, you just practice. With a schedule like this, it's less random and it gives a better idea of each player's level.

What is your schedule for the next few weeks?

I just spent two weeks in Rabat, on the Dar Es Salam course, which is a great spot to train. I will play the two Australian tournaments in February. Then I return home for a few days, in Aix-en-Provence, before leaving for South Africa and Saudi Arabia. Then I'll go see my staff in Belgium.

What is your strong point on a course?

I would say my strength of character and my determination. I still have a lot to learn technically, on the basics.

What is your best memory as a golfer?

I love the team spirit, the idea of being able to share. When I was at Indiana University in the United States, I remember winning a tournament in Ohio which allowed my team to finish third. I was able to share this joy with my partners, it was really cool. Ditto during my victory in India in 2017, where many of my friends from the Pôle France were present.

Is there a player you admire?

I'm not the fan type, to admire someone. Everyone makes their own way. But I like to follow Céline (Boutier) on the LPGA. We're the same age, we grew up together, we played tournaments together. It's the same for Antoine (Rozner) on the men's circuit.

Have you ever done a hole in one?

Yes, but it was a long time ago, on the occasion of the French junior championship, I must have been 15 years old. I don't remember where it was any more, maybe Saint-Cyprien. Or to Massane… yes, I think it was Massane (laughs).

It's amazing that you don't remember the place very well. The hole in one is a bit like a golfer's holy grail ...

Yes, that's for sure, and it's good à la carte as well (laughs). But that was a long time ago. I just remember that I hadn't seen where my ball fell. Arriving on the green, not finding her, I even started to get annoyed before realizing that she was in the hole!

What is your favorite route?

The DLF Country Club, in the suburbs of New Delhi, India. Beyond my victory on this course in 2017, I find it super beautiful and it perfectly matches my game. It's a very strategic little course, where you have to place the ball well. In France, I appreciate the Parisian routes, because there are often trees and I love nature: Saint-Cloud, Morfontaine, Saint-Germain ...

Who are your Camille sponsors?

I have just started a partnership with Skechers. It is a Californian brand that has established itself in France and markets sports and golf shoes. They are really great, light, very comfortable. There is EJO Cosmetics, a Swiss brand that offers very good quality products. Lacoste, for golf and even street outfits, with fabrics that are very comfortable to wear, especially when it's hot. The Porosus Foundation, which supports talents in the launch of their project. And the Golf Plus stores, which provide me with the equipment (bags, clubs, etc.) that I need.
