Garmin Approach R50: New Radar and High-End Golf Simulator

Garmin this week announced the Approach R50, the all-new radar and premium golf simulator that gives golfers the luxury of playing year-round at home or on any driving range. The Approach R50 features a 10-inch color touchscreen and more than 43 golf courses worldwide, with an enhanced Home Tee Hero.

With its three cameras, the analytics radar can track more than 15 ball and club metrics, including measured speed and spin axis. It can also provide accurate analytics for every club—from driver to putter—and record high-speed impact video so golfers can see close-ups of how they’re making contact with the ball for every shot.

Play golf anywhere, no matter the conditions

Bad weather won’t stop golfers from pursuing their passion. With the Approach R50 and an indoor setup, they can play a full virtual round (including drive and putt) on more than 43 courses worldwide from the comfort of their garage, basement or driving range. With the enhanced Home Tee Hero simulator, four players can compete virtually in weekly tournaments with scores displayed on a global leaderboard000 visible directly on the Approach R1.

For the ultimate simulation experience, the Approach R50 easily connects to a monitor or projector to turn a garage or basement into a virtual course. Players can cast their Approach R50 screen to an external projector or display, or customize the setup to suit their needs. For example, they can play immersive virtual rounds with Home Tee Hero on a projector, then view their radar scan data or impact videos on the Approach R50 screen. For those who prefer a simple setup, the portable Approach R50 can serve as a stand-alone simulator.

Improve your game

Golfers looking to improve between rounds can use the Approach R50’s Practice Mode, which records sessions and statistics for each club, allowing players to see and understand their progress over time. High-speed impact videos provide immediate visual feedback for every shot, so golfers of all skill levels can analyze their swing and work on their weak areas.

Whether indoors or outdoors, the Approach R50 helps golfers perfect their game all year long. The device provides stat tracking for all clubs, as well as more than 15 advanced metrics to help them achieve their best swing, including ball speed, launch angle and clubface position. With state-of-the-art high-speed cameras, every ball movement is captured, allowing the Approach R50 to measure every aspect of shot parameters, including ball speed and spin axis.

Courses from around the world, at home

Home Tee Hero lets golfers play their favorite courses, even when they’re halfway around the world. With the simulator, up to four players can compete on any of the 43 available golf courses, allowing them to play full rounds from the comfort of their own home. Home Tee Hero has enhanced its course maps for the Approach R000, providing significantly more detail and a more immersive playing experience. Whether they want to play realistic rounds on their home setup, practice a course for an upcoming trip, or test out their dream courses, golfers can play anywhere in the world.

With built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, players can also use their favorite third-party simulators anywhere they have a network. With Home Tee Hero, they can also play rounds on top third-party simulators GSPro, E6 Connect/Apex (coming soon) and Awesome Golf, all of which are compatible with the Approach R50.

In addition to providing comprehensive and accurate metrics, the Approach R50 offers the ability to play just about anywhere, as long as there is enough space available. Simple to set up, lightweight and with a 4-hour battery life, the Approach R50 can be taken anywhere with its carrying case.
